The Science Department requires that
medical notes from doctors must include the
following:
the date you were examined
specific dates for the period of
the illness
the nature
and severity of the illness
the signature of the doctor (signatures
by office staff on behalf of the doctor are not
acceptable)
Only original medical notes will
be accepted. At the end of the term all medical excuses will be
given to the Chair of the Science
Department, who will have them added to the student file.
Any missed experiments may be done
ONLY if there is room available in another section of that
experiment. Written permission
to attend an alternate section must be obtained from your
laboratory instructor before you
will be admitted into any alternate sections.
NOTE: In
order to receive credit for the laboratory component of the course, no
more than two experiments can be
missed for any reason.
B.
Laboratory Grade
For students in Chemistry 101, the
mark given for the laboratory portion of the course is worth 30%
of your total course work.
Of this 30%, 21% will be assigned from your marks for the experiments,
and 9% will be assigned from the
laboratory examination (see below).
C.
Advance Study Assignments
Each experiment has an Advance Study
Assignment. The Advance Study Assignments are not
marked; they are designed to help
you understand the experiment and to give you practice with the
calculations. Although no
mark is assigned for the Advance Study Assignment, they are very useful
in the preparation to perform the
experiment as well as to write the reports and quizzes (see below).
