Part B:
Graphical Determination of “R”
1.
Prepare a graph of volume of N
2(g)
versus moles of N
2(g)
using your experimental data in the above table.
(Use graph paper with a 1.0 mm grid.)  Label each axis clearly, using the largest convenient scales, title
the graph appropriately and draw the “best-fit” straight line through the data points.  Include the graph
with your Report.  (1.0 mark)
2.
Calculate the slope of the graph.  Determine the value of “R” using this slope value?
NOTE:  To calculate “R”, use the average of the pressure and temperature values for the N
2(
g)
recorded in
the table of Part A #4.
(0.8 marks)
3.
Compare the average value for “R” calculated in Part A to the above value for “R” determined in Part B.
Are they consistent?  Explain why or why not.  (0.3 marks)
Part C:
Heat of Reaction
Note:
A detailed explanation of the calculations regarding the error associated with the heat of reaction
is given in the Experimental Method information.
1.
Is the reaction exothermic or endothermic based on the temperature change in the reaction solution?  (0.1
marks)
