pH 4 will be displayed for two seconds.  Rinse and dry the electrode, then immerse the
electrode in pH 4.00 standard buffer.  The pH meter is calibrated for pH 4.01 when the
ready light comes on.  Press “yes” to accept the calibration.  SLP will be displayed for two
seconds, then the calculated slope is displayed.  The pH meter automatically goes into the
MEASURE mode.  The READY light comes on when the reading is stable.  The pH meter
is then ready to use.

Rinse and dry the electrode and store it in the “storage buffer” until required.

Beckman pH meter, Model 340
i)
Press “CAL” to initiate the calibration mode.
ii)
Press “CLEAR” twice to clear the previous calibration.
iii)
Wash the electrode thoroughly with DI•H2O and immerse in pH 7.00 standard buffer
solution.  Push “READ” and swirl the solution around the bulb of the electrode to speed
equilibration.  
This calibration point has been accepted when the “eye” stops flashing.
iv)
Again, wash the electrode thoroughly with DI•H2O and immerse in pH 4.00 standard
buffer solution.  Push “READ” and swirl the solution around the bulb of the electrode to
speed equilibration.  
This calibration point has been accepted when the “eye” stops flashing. 
Record the slope displayed.
v)
Press “CAL” to end the calibration procedure.  Note: if the display goes blank, simply press
the auto button once to display the current pH of the solution.
vi)
Rinse and dry the electrode and store it in the “storage buffer” until required.
